KNOW THAT THERE IS A CALL - The What

Life is a journey filled with experiences. So, it could be said that life is a story. And as stories are based on facts or in fiction, we have leeway to play with our experiences to fit a historical structure available to everyone willing to see.

Though not the call I’m referring to on this website when I talk about the spiritual side of things, the “call” in “A Heroes Journey” is an essential part when it comes to memotional* understanding.

Here the structure every protagonist must conclude in order to be recognized as a hero(in): Ordinary world, Call to adventure, Refusal of the call, Meeting of the mentor, First threshold, Tests, Allies and enemies, Approach of the inmost cave, Ordeal, Reward, Road back, Resurection, Return with the Elixir.

To follow a spiritual call is much like following a call into an adventure. Since no one really knows where hiser* journey actually leads, we have to trust that the structure of A Heroes Journey can guide us, show us where we are and/or where we’re stuck. Most people repeat patterns resembling structures implemented by a cultural program and thus get stuck at the same patterns again and again.

FYI: When you refuse a call (the third stage in a Heroes Journey), which means that you are finding multiple reasons why you should not leave your comfort zone (ordinary world) to follow a call into the unknown, you may now realize that you are right on target. The fact that most people give up at this point (refusal of the call) only proves that you’re stuck and have not yet understood the rules of life as a journey.

Once you’ve exposed yourself to the twelve stages and pair it with what is going on in your life, you’ll see that you are the hero or the heroin of your tale and you’ll recognize that life is a story.
