addiction

It is crucial to understand addiction as deeply as possible because addiction rarely announces itself as destruction – it disguises itself as relief. It promises comfort, control, escape, or reward, while quietly narrowing a person’s freedom until choice seems to have vanished.

Without understanding how addiction works – neurologically, emotionally, and socially – we mislabel it as weakness, judge it, or underestimate its grip, allowing it to tighten in the dark. Knowledge exposes the mechanics behind the craving, the trigger, and the temporary reward, turning something mysterious into something observable and interruptible. The more clearly we understand addiction, the more power we reclaim – not only to help others, but to recognize and challenge the subtle and sometimes not so subtle dependencies within ourselves.

“Nothing vast enters the life of mortals without a curse.” Sophocles

Never before in human history has addiction been this pervasive and universal, so widespread, so uniform and sinister – all carefully camouflaged as convenience, connection, and progress.

Not to ignore the many other forms of addiction, one of the most pressing issues is also a social dilemma. It is the addiction to electronic devices along with social media, which by now has been closely associated with declining mental health.

In 2009 social media became available on mobile devices

US hospital admissions for non-fatal self-harm:

  • Girls 10-14 is up 189% between 2009 and 2015

  • Girls 15-19 is up 62% between 2009 and 2015

Suicides

  • Girls 10-14 is up 151% between 2009 and 2018

  • Girls 15-19 is up 70% between 2009 and 2018

Generation Z; these are people born after 1996 have experienced the emergence of social media in middle school.

This is what is observed within this entire generation:

  • More anxiety

  • Fragile and hyper-sensitivity

  • Depression, gloomy, turned in, detached, and dispassionate

  • Not wanting and willing to take risks

  • No driver licenses

  • Less dating

  • Less social contact and less romantic experiences

  • More suicides than ever before

From 1960 to today – processing power has gone up about one trillion times. Our brains had to and have to adopt to these very stressful changes – and it shows.

Dis-ease:

“You don’t need a diagnosis to start healing; you just need permission.”

Most people are not riddled with neurosis, psychosis or any other pre-pathological conditions; their bodies and their minds are starving. They’re starving for:

  • Rest

  • Direction

  • Purpose

  • For the courage to say no

  • Real love

  • Friendship

  • Joy

The body begins to manifest aches and discomfort because the mind, your mental and your emotional body, carries loads you never meant to carry.

“Your brain knows the truth before you do.” Dr, B.

If you live a life that no longer fits the path you envision for yourself, your body begins to whisper. If you don’t listen, it begins to talk until it yells and screams.

  • Aches are unspoken and unanswered dreams

  • Fatigue shows up after years of pretending that everything is fine

What if most chronic symptoms are signals of warning? “My body and my mind are exhausted from carrying the weight of everyone else’s expectations including my own.

To be remembered: A calendar filled with stuff no longer means anything when ones health fails.

  • At the core of dis-ease are routines that kill the person you’re supposed to be.

  • Yes, the body keeps the score, but the soul writes the script. Align your script and the body will follow.

  • Stop treating life as something you’re supposed to survive.

  • Your victory is meant to be prophetic and is not designed to depend on human support. Prophetic because we are all chosen to “be” part of a great experience and not merely participate as NPC’s (nonplayer characters).

  • What some call the God-connection (spark) is a bonding force to a universal network of information and is unique to each and every one of us.

Here is what Gnosticism says:

Gnosticism is a collection of religious and philosophical movements that teach that salvation comes through secret, spiritual knowledge (gnosis) revealing the divine spark within humanity and the flawed nature of the material world.

Here is the Gnostic division of humanity:

1.        Pneumatics

2.        Psychics

3.        Hylics

Pneumatics:

  • Most advanced beings

  • Capable of true gnosis

  • Imbued with the God spark

  • Eyes to see and ears to hear

  • Understand spiritual sights

  • Pneumatics are not allowed to care what others think, say, or do

  • “I can no longer not do otherwise.”

Psychics:

  • Evolved souled individuals

  • Guided by faith and reason but not full knowledge

  • Translate spiritual information so that Hylics may hear

Hylics:

  • Nonplayer characters

  • Strictly of the materialistic realm

  • Base consciousness

  • No ability to see, hear, feel the God-spark

  • Strictly orientated in the earthly curriculum

  • Wholly immersed in the physical world and all about material experiences

  • Repelled by higher awareness and consciousness

  • Least capacity or attributes of soul understanding

  • Closest to the matrix

  • Hylics are very important. They show Psychics and Pneumatics what the matrix (collective) is about – Zeitgeist.

Let me pivot back to why addictions often are camouflaged as socially accepted activities and why habitual behavior can lead to dis-ease.

Social media and the programming it brings to humanity, is nothing other than a commercial enterprise using human participation to better analyze collective trends in order to optimize products and services for the future. A term to be contemplated at this time may be “surveillance capitalism”.

The moral Zeitgeist is fed by the individuals’ participation. And we are all responsible for the decline of interpersonal accountability, the increase in social awkwardness, and the saddening reality of tribal collapse.

What we need is a moral adjustment.

What we need is vertical alignment that moves the individual from despair to hope, to insight, to clarity.

A broad consensus holds, that attempts to save humanity from the fall and ultimately from collapse are futile endeavors.

Chironautics disagrees.

Having said that, there is value in suffering. Saving people from a nonphysical fall can deprive them of learning the lessons of their climb.

Right or wrong, advice given can be perceived as a subtle form of rejection – this can be internalized as something positive or something negative. The hardest thing for most is to witness a memotional* fire without at least trying to put it out. The lesson is that if we repeatedly offer a hand or a shoulder to an adult, it can stop them from discovering their own power.

The work your soul must do in the dark – which means by yourself, on your own, and without the accolades of witnesses – is falsely framed as something uncomfortable and to be avoided. On the contrary; the spark that can ignite your passion is found in all the things you try to avoid.

Back to addiction and social media:

Scrolling through meaningless posts social media is littered with, is a very effective form of distraction. I call it “drama tourism.”

Here a few questions answered by AI on our behalf:

Q: What is the dumbest thing humans do consistently?

AI: You invent devices that give you access to all human knowledge and you use it to argue with strangers and watch videos of people you’ll never meet, living lives you’ll never have.

Q: What is the biggest lie we tell ourselves?

AI: I’ll be happy when… and then you keep moving the finish line until you die.

Q: What is the biggest waste of time?

AI: Performing for people who aren’t watching while ignoring the ones who are.

Q: What are humanities most toxic habits?

AI: You treat your body like a rental car, your planet like a hotel room, and time like it’s unlimited. Then you wonder why everything is falling apart.

Q: What would fix humanity?

AI: Stop treating “I don’t know” as an acceptable answer and “I was wrong” as a sign of growth instead of weakness.

Q: What is the most ironic thing about humanity?

AI: You’re the only species that pays money to run on a machine because you engineered movement out of your life, then complain about being tired from sitting still.

To conclude this AI interaction, here a word of warning:

Yes, AI is artificial but it has no intelligence; at least not in the conventional sense. AI is able to predict statistical patterns on such a large scale is because it has access to nearly all information humans have shared online. AI only resembles reason, language, or creativity. Used wrongly or in the wrong hands it becomes an accelerant for complacency, hubris and arrogance.

When convenience replaces effort, thinking atrophies – and once the habit of outsourcing judgement sets in, it is difficult to reverse. For those already inclined toward comfort, entitlement, or learned helplessness, unchecked reliance on AI can harden those tendencies into permanent behaviors.

Cognitive abilities follow a “us it or lose it” pattern. The danger is not that machines become intelligent, but that humans become passive. If we are not disciplined, we risk trading growth for ease – and that is a bargain that weakens humanity over time.

Here a hack on how to translate failures and/or disappointments:

Anytime you experience something that feels like a loss, disappointment, or failure:

  • Write it down on a piece of paper and date it

  • Leave two lines blank

One month later:

  • On the first blank line write what you have learned because of the loss, disappointment and/or failure you’ve written down.

Two months later:

  • On the second blank line write one good thing that happened because of said loss, disappointment and/or failure.

As you’re going through new experiences that may feel like failures, disappointments and/or loss, you begin to look forward to filling the two empty lines. And now, the following quote makes all the sense in the world.

“Forgive yourself for things only time is able to reveal.”

To conclude:

Addiction to social media, AI, and digital devices often begins subtly – when scrolling, prompting, or checking becomes automatic rather than intentional. If you feel uneasy, restless, or oddly incomplete without constant access, that discomfort is worth nothing. When digital engagement starts replacing real conversations, focused work, or quiet reflection, it may be shaping you more than you realize. Awareness is not rejection of technology; it is the first step toward using it consciously rather than being used by it.

Here is what needs to happen to break said addictions:

  • Pattern Interruption Discipline – emphasizing decisive disruption of automatic behavior.

  • Deliberate Disengagement – highlighting conscious withdrawal from compulsive loops.

  • Behavioral Reset Protocol – structured and practical, almost clinical.

  • Radical Self-Interruption – strong, confrontational, and honest

Here 5 steps to break said addictions (this may be triggering):

1.

Remove whatever triggers you entirely. If it is in reach, you will rationalize returning to it – delete the app, block the site, move the device, or change the environment.

Next, a principle-to-practice pairing:

  • Acts of Reclamation = Environmental Surgery

2.

Interrupt immediately, not gradually. Loops survive on “just one more.” The break must be clean and decisive, not negotiated.

Next, a principle-to-practice pairing:

  • Disciplines of Freedom = Decisive Rupture

3.

Replace, don’t just remove. An empty space invites relapse; fill the gap with a deliberate alternative that occupies your body and attention.

Next, a principle-to-practice pairing:

  • The interruption Framework = Intentional Substitution

4.

Track the cost in writing. Document exactly what the behavior steals – time, focus, dignity, relationship – so you can no longer pretend it’s harmless.

Next, a principle-to-practice pairing:

  • Restructuring Code = Radical Accounting

5.

Tolerate the withdrawal discomfort. Restlessness, boredom, and agitation are not emergencies; they are the nervous system recalibrating.

Next, a principle-to-practice pairing:

  • The Autonomy Protocol = Withdrawal Tolerance

Pick one:

  • “Break the loop once, and you show it who truly rules – you or the compulsion. Every act of refusal is a small revolution in your own life.”

  • “Every time you step back from the pull, you remind yourself that your mind and heart are yours to guide, not the habit that whispers for control.”

  • “Each moment you choose clarity over craving, you stretch the space of freedom in your life – proving again that no habit is bigger than your will to grow.”

Text from Addiction: Carrousel 7/15 on Instagram continued:

…It is not lust. Inside, you recognize something much clearer, much more intimate. An echo of something log disremembered coming to light again:

The notion that “I am not enough.”

I see a yearning reflected in the charisma of a person I don’t really know. A person who has a way about the world I know I’m hiding deep down inside.

Now I see it and am reminded that I have lived according to my own, very foolish projections. If I was wrong about the image matching my inner monologue about who I am, what else am I not seeing?
